Its name comes from its location under Puig de l’Estremera, and its inhabitants are known as baixputchers or putchers. Baix des Puig stands out not only for its architecture, but also for its cultural wealth. One of Bunyola’s most well-known popular expressions says: “Baixputchers carry the sack for gaiato”. This saying refers to the habit of the inhabitants of Baix des Puig to collect everything they found along the way, such as snails, asparagus, almonds, carobs and olives, and put them in a sack that they always carried with them.
Today, despite its small population, Baix des Puig keeps its community spirit and cultural heritage alive. A visit to this village is a journey through time, where every corner tells a story and every house keeps memories of a past that is still present in the collective memory of its inhabitants.

A Journey to the Past
The history of Baix des Puig goes back to the establishment of estates such as Son Vivot, Son Sales and Son Pisa from the second half of the 19th century, although the establishments of Estremera Vella from the 17th century also played a role important role In 1924, the hamlet had 69 inhabitants, but in the second half of the 20th century, the population dwindled considerably, with only nine residents remaining by the end of the century.
